taining complete lists of the Auction Sales,
Conveyances, Leases, Mortgages and Buildings
Projecteci in New York City during the first

a file for permanent reference should see that

time, can be obtained at the office, 14 and 16
Vesey street; price, one dollar.
THE KEY.
â– ^ Before any page No. indicates an Auction
Sale.
t Before any page No. indicates a New Build¬
ing Projected.
Figures in parenthesis are leases.
Figures preceded by capital letter are mort¬
gages, said capital letter indicating the
first letter of the name of the mortgagor.
Figures without any signs whatsoever are
Conveyances.
EXAMPLE.
Broome st from West Broadway to Sullivan
st^.(G12), M614, «G97, T41, tl02S.
On page (012) a lease can be found.
On page 614 a mortgage can be found under the
letter M,
On page *697 an Auction Sale can be found.
On page 741 a Conveyance can De found.
On page tl028 a New Building can he found.
AUCTION SALES.
The * appearing before any number indi¬
cates the page on which to find an Auction
Sale; for instance, see Bleecher st, from Mac-
dougal to Carmine st. .*926.
CONVEYANCES
are distinguished by numbers without having
signs attached thereto. In many instances there
will be found streets, etc., indexed under
pages which, on being examinefl, show at once
that they are not in their proper order accord¬
ing to our customary alphabetical and numeri¬
cal arrangement. A further examination will
disclose the fact that while the properties ap¬
pear more prominently under the other street
descriptions, they nevertheless extend to the
streets, etc., indicated by the Index, and hav¬
ing a frontage on same have heen included in
the paging, and it will necessitate a somewhat
more thorough search than usual to locate it.
The Leases, Mortgages, Auction Sales and Pro¬
jected Buildings are indexed in a similar man¬
ner to the plan followed with the Conveyances.
LEASES.
The figures in parenthesis, for instance, pages
(517), (931), under the head of Attorney st.
from DeJancey to Rivington st—denote that
the transactions on the pages given are Lease¬
hold, an assignment of lease or a lease run¬
ning for a short or long term of years. This
explanation is made so that subscribers search¬
ing for transfers in fee can at once distin¬
guish between the former and the latter with¬
out referring to the pages mentioned.
MORTGAGES.
All the mortgages are indexed against the
street or avenue in which the property Is lo¬
cated, and memoranda added to enable search¬
ers to find the particulars in "The Record and
Guide." For example. Bank st, from Green¬
wich to West st, appears followed by T 794.
This means that a mortgage against the prop¬
erty on Bank st appears on page 794 and "T"
is the initial letter of the mortgagor or bor¬
rower. The streets and avenues are so sub¬
divided that very few references are necessary.
All readers of "The Record and Guide" are
aware that the mortgages appear w«ekly in
alphabetical order, so that they have, so to
speak, a weekly index of mortgagors. This
publication of an index against property com¬
pletes the information which those Interested
may require.
PROJECTED BUILDINGS
are' included under the same general head¬
ing, and are distinguished by Ihe f which pre¬
cedes the numbering. See Barrow st, from
Washington to West st..tlS5, t668.
