December 81, 1887 The Record and Guide. 1649 GREAT BRITAIN. The Timber Trades Journal ae follows: London. American Black Walnut—T'he trade in this has of late been wthout material change. A fair amount of bii-ine'ts continues to be done, but there can bo no doubt that the heavy importations of lumber have greaily interfered wi'h tbe sale of log«, very little being done in the latter at the late public sale. American Wnitewood.— \ fair amount of business c^ntiQue'i in this, though for some time past cut stuff has been selhng much more freely tha pdr doz. White Pine.—R-ceipta are 43i,'67feet. per Lillian, and 118,387 feet, per Stacy Clam, from New Y< rk. The former sold at MOfffunS rs. per foit,'he latter has only just arriv-d. The mar«t*t is supplied and weak. Spruce Pine.—Nothing whatever to report. Swedi.>h Pine —Receipts are '44 dozt^n, per Ryno, from Skeleftea, 571 dozen per Gnaa, from Memel, and 763 dozen, per Rudi>lphine Burci- ard, frora Wesierwicff. Tbe first w s «L.ld on private torm>*i tbe others are reported to be on order, brokers quote red deals at 3i$fO0@36$Oi 0 per dozen, as to quali'y and assortmeut, and wbite at 26$JuiJ@27$iJ0O. Market firm. METALS—CoppKR.—Ingot retains the same general support tbat bas so long stimulated and held the mar¬ ket up, and appearances generally are firm. Iudeed, while tbe speculative el ment bas practically done about all the business for some time, it now looks as though actual consumers would bave to come in soon, and tbis, it Is believed, will still further enhance values. The fire in the leading mine at the West is stilt burning. As we close. It Is reported that liberal exports are ab ut taking place, including considerable stock bouKht by tbe speculative clique. We quote Lake at a*'Out l-J^'g^ll^o.. but somewhat nominally. Manufaciured Copper continues to move somewbeit slowly, but is very firm fn tone at t he Jate advance. Iron—Scotch Pig has not met with the demand hoped, and was iudeed quite dull at times, as no abatement in the lay dowu cost could be obtained, however, and having only light supplies to cirry, holders remainea firm at lull former valuation. V^ e quote at $l9.5i @2.'.50 p'r ton, accordiug to brand, q-ianiity aid dt-livery. American Pig has sola with more or lesa freedom on contrac s for next year's delivery, hut iu mauy cases ou private terms, especially fur branda not holJi'-g a luadiug place In the market, tienerally, however, the itdicafions are that bel'ers conceded little, if anytbing from former rates, and tbe feeiing ou tbe market in qutle cheerful.
