The old arraory and store building whicb forraerly occupied tbis site has been torn down and the soHd rock foundation has been cĩeared off ready for blasting. Tbis surface ro(;k now lies ahout ten feec below the street level aad it wiU prohably be blastad out toadeptbof 25 feet raore, giviDg roomfor three stories belowtbe level o£ the street. The building as at present projected will be tbree Btories higb and will be used exelusively hy tbe fJerald. It ia to eost ahout $300,000. Tbe basemeut story, the ceUing of which wiĩl be several feet abova the street level, witl be occupied by some of the most improved presses aod other apparatus, Mr. Bennett's idea beÍDg to show tbe public how a great newspaper is printed. In furtberanca of this idea, it is under- stood tbat the baaemeot froot and probably tbe whole first story will fae of plate glass. MeKim, Mead & White are tha arcbitects tor the new build- ing, and tbe agreemeot for the coustruction of the building has just been madewith David H. King, Jr, Itwill probably ba a full year or more befora the Herald moves into its oew quarters, Meantirae the old Herald buĩlding at Broadway and Ann street is for sala. Mr. Bennett's nrigiaaí asking price was $3,000,000, but it is undarstood that this figure bas been redueed coosiderably, aud it is'very probable that the building aodsite could be purchased for very rauch less. Jobn A, Hamilton has drawn plans for six private houaes to he built on the sonth side of 142d street, beginning 275 feet east o£ Grand Boulevard. J. B. Carssaod Fred'k Mobi-, Jr., are the owaers of two of tbese, and will superviĩe tbe construction of tbe other fonr for tbe several owuers. The houses are to be three stories and basemeut in beigbt, witb stone and brick fronts and with cabinet trimmed ĩnteriors, Two wili he 20x50 in size and four, 15x54. Tbe estimated cost for tbe six is $80,000. J. G, Wallace will improve the lots Nos, 48 aod 60 East Ĩ3tb street, by tbe erection of a business huilding, A pressiog necessity for larger churcb accommodations compels the con- gregatioa of the Cburí;h o£ the BJessed Sacrament, Rev, Fatber Taylor, rector, to build a cbapel on tbe ploc aC the soutbeast corner of the Bouĩe- vard and 71st street. Tbe building will be a fariek structure finished in tbe plainest manner, for temporary use, ĩt wili have a froataga ou the Boulavard of 110 feet and on the street of 143 feet, with a deptb of 100 £eet. Tbeinterior finisb is to faa of yellow piue and so far as estimated wUl cost between $30,000 and $25,000. Joseph H. McGuire, arehitect, WiU A Q'ffpp is preparing plans for tbree dweUings, brownstone aud fariek frouts, 16,8x50 each, to be erected on the west side of Edgecomba avenue, 435 feeC south o£ 145l;h street. Tbey are to bave bardwood trim, saaitary plumbiug and all improvements, and are to cost S9,750 eacb. Theowner, F, Grasmuck, wiUcoraraence building at once. R. Hoa & Co., press manufacturers, are about to buiid an extausion to their factory. The naw strueture wiU eover all that part of the Broonie street frooc, between Sheriffi and Columfaia streets, oot oow covared by tbeir factory. Siraon Peyser wiîl buUd a semi-flre-proof apartraeot house with twoor tbree rooraa to each apartraeot, on tha northeasc corner o£ 5th avenue and 114th streeC. Tbe plot to be improved coosists o£ a lot 35,11x100, on the corner of 5th avenua and 114th street, together with a lot SOxlũO, forraing an "L" on 114th street in the rear. The cost of tha iraprovement will be $75.000. M. A. Cockburn will improve the 72 feet front ou the south side of g5th street, 299 feet west of Central Park West.
