strike at the coal mines and tho high prices for coal. We
quote at §30 per ton for No. 1; §28@29 for No. 2; and §27
@,28 for forge. Bar Iron is unusually slow on account of
the bad condition of the streets. We quote from store at
about §74@,79 for refined; §70(^70.50 for common ; §110
forSwede.s, ordinary sizes; $97.50@125 forscroU; §!)7.50
@125 for ovals and half-round; §92.50(g^95 for band ; §95
for horse-shoe ; §102.50@.140 for hoop ; §82.50@83 for
rods (5-8 and .3-16 inch); and 6?^ per lb for naU rod, all cash.
Common Sheet ig moving slowly in lots at formerly quoted
prices. We quote 43i@6c for single, double, and treble.
Galvanized Sheet is quiet, but \rithout change in value. We
quote at 1 Oc for 14(^,20 ; lie for 32@34; and 12c for 25@26;
and 13@14c for 27®29, all net cash. Russia Sheet is in good
supply and meets with a fair consumptive demand for job¬
bing lots. We quote 103^@,llc gold, according to number.
Pig Lead is dull and nominally aa before quoted, holders
do not, however, offer concessions. We quote 6%(5j.6.J:fc.
Manufactured contumcs dull at the follo^ving prices:—We
quote 8%c for Bar, 10X®10><<c for Sheet and Pipe, less 10
per cent, to the regular trade. Pig Tin shows no move¬
ment whatever since our last, except in a jobbing way.
We quote in coin at 3334'@33^c for English; 33>^®33%c
for-Straits ; and S8X@-i'ic for Banca. Tin Plates are also
very quiet and rule nominally stoadj'. We quote X Char¬
coal Tin 0%(gt6%c; Coke Tin 73^@8}<c; and Terne 7X
@8o, aU gold. Zinc is very dull at 8.J^@9c for No. 9 to 11
sheet.
NAILS. —The general demand continues rather mode¬
rate, and the market without much animation on any style,
with prices a little slack, some parcels selling abont X°
off. Exports are fair considerhig the season, but the out¬
let as usual mainly on home account. Among manufac¬
turers and agents the expression of fecUng is confident, and
not many are openly otfering their stocks with any freedom.
It is also proposed to hold a meeting of the selling interest
and perfect an organization by which a combination can be
formed to advance prices at the opening of the spring
trade. We quote cut at 4%@4^c for 4d. .and 6d. Clmch
5%®6c. Other styles are .selling as follows: Copper,
37c per lb; yellow metal, 22c do; zinc, 16c do. The
exports for the week are — jickgs, valued afc —; and
since January 1st, 1,643 pckgs, valued at §8,236.
PAINTS AND OILS.—The wholesale market stiU con¬
tinues to show only a moderate amount of activity in the
aggregate, but the demand is slowly increasing, with indi¬
cations of a further improvement. Local jobbers here and
there are commencing to lay in a little stock, and Western
buyers are in attendance to some extent. The latter have
made up very few invoices as yet. but are looking around
examining stocks, testing v.alues, etc., and their movements
give hopes that they wUl operate to a f.air extent. The
exports are about up fco tho avera.gc, and taking the usual
assortment. Stocks on hand, mth occasional additions,
keep up fairly as to quantity and assortment, but a few
grades, particularly of English goods, would soon disappear
on any material increase of the call. Jobbers are doing
fairly on mail orders and the usual sales fco regular custo¬
mers, and seem to be very well satisfied with the present
position and hopeful of tho future. Of domestic goods
there is a pretty fair supply on hand, with additions sent
in by manufacturers, about in proportion to the outlet.
Linseed Oil has been advanced in price by a combination of
the leading crushers, who at a recent meeting put up the
rates to 84c per gaUon for jobbing lots in casks, with a dis¬
count of Xc per gallon for 1,000 g.allons and upwards, Ic
for 2,000 gallons and upwards, and l;<fc for 5,000 gallons
and upwards—cash within thirty days; all bills not paid
within thirty days, to bo charged with interest from the
date of sale. Buyers protest most positively against the
increased cost, and the business has been moderate. Some
oufc, side lots are understood, to be av.aUable at something
under combination prices, and for the present we omit
quotations as simply nomhial.
Exports as follows:

PITCH.—^Business has not been begun as yet in this .ar¬
ticle, and the sales made are only of small lots from jobbers;
prices consequently rule as before quoted, though almost
nominal. We quote §2.65(§>2.80 for city ; §3.75(^3 for
Southern, and small lots, very choice, in a jobbing way
from store, at §3@3.1-". Receipts for the week,------;

Exports for week,------; since January l.st, 225 bbls; same
time last year, 414 bbls.
SPIRITS TURPENTINE.—The market has been f.airly
active since the date of our last, and prices have iraproT.;d,
and the close is very firm with an upward tendency. We
quote at 52(^52Mc for merchantable and shippin.g order,
and 53M(i§i53}^c for N. Y. bbl; smaU lots at 53)<<(^56c,
and retail lots from store .54@.55o. Receipts for the week,

period last year, 6,406 bbls. Exports for the week,------

last year, 2,96,2.
. TAR.—The demand has improved since the date of our
last, and a very fair business has been done at firm but not
higher prices. The demand Is largely for home use, but ex¬
porters are also buying to a considerable extent. We quote
as follo-.vs:—§2.37^(^2,45 per bbl for North Coimty, as
it runs; $2.47>^@2.52X per bbl for Wihnington, and
§2.55>^(^2.75 for rope, and occasionaUy §2.75(^3 for
something very choice m a small way. Receipts for the
