To the Editor Record and Guide;
Among the Brooklyu judgments in your laat Issue appears one
against Michael O'Sullivan in favor of N, Ryan for $1,081,00. The
judgment ia the result of a auit on mechanic's lien filed against me
a year and a half ago. To protect my credit at the time. I paid fhe
entire amount of the lien, with interesl, on December 16, 1897; there
is nothing unpaid but the cosls of the auit, and I intend to lake an
appeal from the judgment and set the matter right before my friends.
The lieu originally was a peculiarly cruel and unjust one. and was
filed under the most distressing and exasperating circumstances. The
judgment of the court compels me to pay Mr, Ryan, besides cosls, for
over ,$200 worth of maleriai and services which I never received, and
which he admitted on the witness stand he never furnished. He chargea
,$9.00 per day for teams, when it was stipulated the price was to be
$5 00- olher items on a corresponding scale. I had paid him $700,00
on'two weeks' credit, instead of thirty days, as agreed; when he put
the lien on he gave me no credit for the amouut of the lien; just
ignored me and put the lien on without notice when he delivered the
last of the gooda. If ever there was an unjust lien filed against a poor,
but honest man the above was one. and 1 mean to flght it to the last
