MISCELLANEOUS.
EEVIEW OF THE EEAL ESTATE MAEKET.
There has been less activity in city realty for the past
week, Avhile suburban olTerings have increased numer-
ously, and in importance. Most of the sales effected
at the Exchange have been of a légal character, aud of
none of them can it be said that they afford any crite¬
rion of the character cf the market. The number of re¬
ported private sales has very perceptibly diminished,
while we are assured that there are many more transac¬
tions which have been conducted s^^6 râsa, or of.which
brokers have been indiffèrent to giving particularâ. The
suburban sales have been specially remarkable in the
interest they bave excited, and for the success which
has attended them. CroAvds of anxious bidders, and act-
ive compétition for the lots offered indicated results
profitable to theoAvners and pleasant tothe auctioneers,
and the events as gathered from the reports of the va¬
rious sales must have been satisfactory to vendors,
Avhile we have not heard any expressions of disappoint-
ment from purchasers. The Whitestone Land Associa¬
tion faithfully carried out its programme of selling ail
the lots which it announced for compétition, and has
therefore closed out its interest, Avliich, hoAVCA'er, having
gone into more numerous hands is likely to be product¬
ive of greater benefit to the locality.
