78TH ST.—E. N. Whitecomb & Co., Boston, Mass,, has ob¬
tained the contract for alterations to the 4-sty dwelling 3 East
TSth st for H. H. Rogers, of 26 Broadway. Charles Brigham,
100 Falmouth st, Boston, Mass., is the architect.

SOUTHERN BOULEVARD.—Moore & Landsiefiel, 148th st
and Third av, are drawing plans for nine 6-sty brick flats, 50x94
each, to be built on the west side of Southern Boulevard, 100 ft
south of Avenue St, John, Bronx, for William Wainwright, of
1042 Macy pi, at a total cost of $540,000.

64TH ST.—John T. Brady & Co,, 4-6 East 42d st, have obtained
the general contract for $10,000 worth of improvements to the
5-sty residence, 2 East 64tb st, for E. J. Berwind, on premises,
from plans by Horace Trumbauer, 1408 Land Title Building,
Philadelphia, Pa,

BRQADWAT.—William Kleeman & Co., 619 to 625 West 54th
st, are asking for estimates on all ornamental iron work for
John Wanamaker's new 14-sty store on Broadway, between 8th
and 9th sts. Ernest Zimmerman, of the company, is in charge.
The same company holds the contract for all the store fixtures
and interior woodwork and trim.

44TH ST.—Palmer & Hornbostel, 63 William st, are drawing
plans for an 8-sty club house, 35x100, to be built in 44th st,
near Broadway, for the Alpha Delta Phi Club, of 33 West 33d st,
of which F. L. Stetson is president. It will, of course, be a
fireproof structure, with skeleton steel frame, and exteriors of
brick, stone and terra cotta. Heating and ventilating systems,
boilers, motors, etc.





Kids for Eiig-iueering- Bnilding-.

The contract for the Engineering Clubhouse to be erected in
West 39th st has not yet been given out. All bids for its con¬
struction were considered too high, and the bidders have been
asked to re-figure their estimates. The original plans call for a
15-sty structure with ground dimensions of 115x88.9. The
exteriors are to be of limestone with terra cotta trim and a base
of granite. Herbert D. Hale, of 96 William st, the architect,
will not revise his plans unless the newly computed figures also
prove excessive.

Building-.

TRINITY PL.—The Thompson-Starrett Co., 49 Wall st, this
week obtained the general contract to erect the new 23-sty office
building for the United States Express Co. at 56 to 66 Trinity
pi, through to 91 to 101 Greenwich st, and 8 to 12 Rector st.
The plot measures 133.9 in Greenwich st, 118.7 in Rector st,
142 in Trinity pi and 139.10 along its southern line, covering an
area of about 17,800 sq. ft. The exterior will be of brick with
stone and terra cotta trim. It will cost in the neighborhood of
$1,500,000.   Clinton & Russell, 32 Nassau st, are the architects.

■Maximilian Zipkes, architecti of 147 Fourtli av, is preparing
plans and specifications for 5-sty and basement buildings to be
erected on Cauldwell av, Bronx, for Messrs. Sider & Stolar, at a
cost of .l;250,00O. The buildings will be finished in the best style,
including steam, hardwood trim, inlaid floors, electric light and
many other modern improvements. The fronts will be of lime¬
stone, terra cotta and Harvard brick. Wrought iron ornamental
doors, gates and railings. Plans will be ready for figures on or
about July 15th. The plot has a frontage of 200 ft, and is 100
ft deep.





Contract tor Workmen's Club  Mouse.

S4TH ST,—The general contract for the erection of the club¬
house and educational building, which the Workmen's Educa¬
tional and Home Association are.to .erect on the north side of
84th st, 101,8 ft west of "id av, on a plot 100x102, has been
awarded to the Thompson-Starrett Co,, of 49-51 Wall st. The
new edifice will be 5 stories and basement, with exterior walla of
stone through the first stories, and of pressed brick with terra
cotta trim above. There will be electric passenger elevators,
bowding alleys, gymnasium, billiard rooms, library and reception

rooms, assembly rooms, cafe and restaurant, etc., with all the
best up-to-date equipment. F. W, Fischer, 23 East 23d st, is
the architect. Plans were filed in September, 1903. for a similar
structure for this site, but operations were abandoned.





A Tall One for IFourili Avcnne.

4TH AV.—Abraham Schwab, of Siegel Bros., 65 Wooster st,
will erect an IS-siy structure on a plot 49.4x100 on the west side
of 4th av, 49.4 north of 24th st, being Nos, 330 and 332 Fourth
av. Mr. Schwab has taken a 99-years' lease of the property, and
will include the corner plot in his improvement if he can obtain
a lease of it. The building will have a marble front similar to
that of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co,'s building on the
block immediately south. The proposed building will contain
two stores, a cellar and sub-cellar, and the remainder will be de¬
voted to lofts. There will be three elevators. Work will begin
May 1st. 1900, wh-n Mr, Schwab takes possession. No architect
has been selected, but several are preparing preliminary plans,
a choice of which is expected to be made within two months-
time.





Title  Co.'s New Edifice.

BROADWAY.—The American Bridge Co., 42 Broadway, has
received the contract for structural steel work for the Title
Guarantee & Trust Co.'s new building to be erected at Nos. 1T6
and 178 Broadway, the site of the old Howard Building, adjoin¬
ing tne northeast corner of Maiden lane. The old structure has
disappeared, and excavating is now under way. No other con¬
tracts have yet been issued. The Thompson-Starrett Col. 43
Wall st. Is the general contractor; Howells & Stokes, 100 William
st, are the architects. The new building will occupy a plot
measuring 75.2xl34.6xirregular, nearly 4 city lots, or lO.OOO sq
ft. It is estimated to cost .i;aOO,000, . The building will be B
stories in height, and entirely occupied by the company with its
418 officers and employees. Its special feature will be that every
effort will be made to protect the vast and valuable collection o'^
records from destruction by fire. It is understood that an en¬
tirely new system of library book-stacks will be employed.

143D ST.—Glasser & Ebert, 70 Manhattan st, are preparing
plans fur a 6-sty 36-family flat, 100x56.11, for the T. J. McGuire
Construction Co., lOO We.= . 139th st, same to be erected on the
south side of 143d st, 275 ft east of Broadway, to cost $123,000.

123D ST.—Geo. it'red Pelham, 503 5ch av, is making plans for a

PARK ST,—George Kramer Thompson, 66 Broadway, is mak¬
ing plans for a 6-sty 20-family flat, 34.5x71, for the estate of

182D ST.—E. W. Levitan, 20 West Slst st. is making plans for
